If you do not accept them, you must not use the systems.<\/p>\n<p>Usage must be in compliance with your host institution&#8217;s Acceptable Use Policy and the JANET Acceptable Use Policy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/community.ja.net\/library\/acceptable-use-policy\">The JANET document<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aber.ac.uk\/en\/is\/regulations\/networkuse\/\">Aberystwyth University&#8217;s policy<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bangor.ac.uk\/itservices\/policies\/acceptable-regulations.pdf\">Bangor University&#8217;s policy<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/public-information\/policies-and-procedures\/it-regulations\">Cardiff University&#8217;s policy<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swansea.ac.uk\/it-services\/policies-and-procedures\">Swansea University&#8217;s policy<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All data stored on the Supercomputing Wales systems is at the owner&#8217;s own risk. The owner is also responsible for ensuring that collection and use of their research\/project data are in compliance with data protection regulations<\/p>\n<p>Unless explicitly advised, backups will not be taken of data by Supercomputing Wales. You are advised to maintain your own backups of important or not easily recreated data.<\/p>\n<p>Supercomputing Wales accepts no liability for any loss of data.<\/p>\n<p>Any user found breaching acceptable use will have their accounts immediately suspended and will be reported to their host institution and be subject to the appropriate disciplinary action.<\/p>\n<p>Any software used on the cluster is under the correct licensing conditions. If a user presents a license for software to be installed on the Supercomputing Wales systems they are confirming that they have the original software suppliers consent for it to be installed on a 3rd party system.<\/p>\n<p>Unauthorised access to commercial software will result in access being immediately suspended pending further investigation.<\/p>\n<h2>Data Protection<\/h2>\n<p>The Privacy Notice detailing Data Protection factors on the Supercomputing Wales services, is available on the below link:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.supercomputing.wales\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Supercomputing-Wales_privacy-notice_FINAL.pdf\">Supercomputing Wales_privacy notice_FINAL<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Password policy<\/h2> <p>We require users to follow good password management practice as described in their institutions policies.<\/p> <p>Passwords are set to a certain standard:<\/p> <ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>At least <strong>one uppercase<\/strong> letter<\/li><li>At least <strong>one lowercase<\/strong> letter<\/li><li>At least <strong>one number<\/strong> digit<\/li><li>Password length is <strong>at least 8 characters<\/strong><\/li><\/ol> <p>If a number of attempts to login to the systems fail, then this may trigger automatic banning from your computer for 24 hours.<\/p> <p>Password changes to the systems can be performed via the mySCW interface.<\/p> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best Practice<\/h2> <p>Please also see our page on <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.supercomputing.wales\/index.php\/best-practice\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"654\">Conduct &amp; Best Practice<\/a>.<\/p> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inactivity<\/h2> <p>Users and projects that are inactive (no logins and\/or no compute activity) for more than 12 months may be disabled as a security measure. Reactivation is easily achieved through contacting the Support Desk. <\/p> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Mailing lists <\/h2> <!--wp:paragraph -->\n<p>During account creation, users of the \u201cHawk\u201d supercomputer are automatically subscribed to arcca-community@cardiff.ac.uk.
