Dear HPC Wales User

Next week (week beginning 24/09/2018) will see two significant changes to HPC Wales and Supercomputing Wales (SCW) provision:

1. The existing HPC Wales compute systems at Cardiff will be decommissioned. Login nodes and file systems will remain online at Cardiff for a few more weeks to provide access to existing data that has not been automatically migrated to new systems (e.g. scratch data).  This will impact users from all institutions still using the old HPC Wales systems. The remaining HPC Wales compute will then be approximately 2000 cores on the Swansea system and approximately 648 cores on the Bangor system. Migration to the new SCW systems (Hawk or Sunbird) is necessary for all users, as all old HPC Wales services will be completely decommissioned in a relatively short time frame.
2. The second of the new SupercomputingWales systems will be made available for general access and use. This is the ‘Sunbird’ system and is for the use of Swansea and Aberystwyth users only at this time.

In order to migrate from HPC Wales to SCW and access Sunbird please follow the process described on our new Information Portal at https://portal.supercomputing.wales/index.php/getting-access/

• If you do not appear to be known to My SCW (i.e. you are not presented with the Dashboard screen), you are an external guest user not from one of the four partner universities, or some of your details are incorrect, then please contact us as below.
• Existing project memberships have been migrated so no further action should be needed.  However, if you believe that the project information is incorrect please contact us as below.

Bydd yr wythnos nesaf (wythnos sy’n dechrau ar 24/09/2018) yn gweld dau newid arwyddocaol i ddarpariaeth HPC Cymru ac Uwchgyfrifiadura Cymru:

1. Bydd y systemau cyfrifiadura HPC Cymru presennol yng Nghaerdydd yn cael eu datgomisiynu. Bydd nodau mewngofnodi a systemau ffeiliau yn parhau ar-lein yng Nghaerdydd am ychydig wythnosau er mwyn darparu mynediad i ddata sydd heb eto gael ei fudo’n awtomatig i systemau newydd (e.e. data ‘scratch’). Bydd hyn yn effeithio ar ddefnyddwyr o bob sefydliad sy’n dal i ddefnyddio hen systemau HPC Cymru. Bydd systemau cyfrifiadura HPC Cymru sy’n weddill yn cynnwys oddeutu 2000 craidd ar system Abertawe a thua 648 craidd ar system Bangor. Mae angen i bob defnyddiwr fudo i systemau newydd Uwchgyfrifiadura Cymru (Hawk neu Sunbird), gan y bydd holl wasanaethau HPC Cymru yn cael eu datgomisiynu yn llwyr yn gymharol fuan.
2. Bydd yr ail o’r systemau newydd Uwchgyfrifiadura Cymru ar gael ar gyfer mynediad a defnydd cyffredinol. Y system yma yw ‘Sunbird’ ac mae ar gyfer defnyddwyr Abertawe ac Aberystwyth yn unig ar hyn o bryd.

• Mae aelodau prosiect presennol wedi cael eu mudo felly ni ddylai fod angen cymryd rhagor o gamau. Fodd bynnag, os ydych yn credu bod y wybodaeth prosiect yn anghywir, cysylltwch â ni drwy ddefnyddio’r manylion isod.
